OHBA will be traveling with a small group of members to Berlin, Germany . With a focus on contemporary architecture and tours of new communities that have emerged in the former no-mans- land of the Berlin wall, this will be a unique opportunity to take in the culture of one of Europe’s most vibrant city empires with your industry colleagues.

This four-day tour will feature local guides, meetings with housing, planning and building officials, architectural walking tours, development site tours, and networking with fellow members.

Day 1 – Monday, May 22

  • 6:30 PM – Meet in the lobby at Hotel Bikini – Welcome Reception & Dinner

 

Day 2 – Tuesday, May 23

  • 8:00 AM – Breakfast
  • 8:45 AM – Meet in Hotel Lobby
  • 9:00 AM – Hop on the U-bahn!
  • 9:30 AM – Parliamentary District and Pariser Platz – Along the river Spree, the architecture of political power with the so-called “ribbon of the federation“ is particularly impressive. The Federal Government‘s move from Bonn to Berlin completely changed its architectural representation. After historically modest buildings in the provinces of Bonn, the new parliamentary district is now characterised by buildings of high symbolic value: Norman Foster with his glass walk-in dome of the Reichstag building stand for a new way of building in a modern democracy.
  • 12:00 PM – Lunch
  • 1:45 PM – Jump on the U-bahn!
  • 2:00 PMCut Through the Inner City – the OHBA tour will lay a cross- section through Berlin‘s city centre and present both historical and contemporary projects. The route combines diverse aspects of current urban development.
  • 7:30 PM – Dinner

 

Day 3 – Wednesday, May 24

  • 8:00 AM – Breakfast
  • 8:45 AM – Meet in Hotel Lobby
  • 9:00 AM – One City Two Centres – City West – Berlin has two main centres: one in the former east and one in the western part of the city. Around the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church with the Europa Center at Zoo station, the commercial centre of the walled-in city has asserted itself. Discover the new old City West with us!
  • 12:00 PM – Lunch
  • 1:45 PM – Jump on the U-bahn!
  • 2:00 PMRevitalization at Rummelsberg Bay – Set in a breathtaking waterfront location, a new piece of Berlin has been growing for several years in the golden triangle between Friedrichshain, Lichtenberg and Oberschöneweide. Where ice blocks were once stored and coal was shipped, innovative working worlds, studios and flats are now being built. In addition to new architecture such as the City Marina and the Spree Studios, you will pass the site of the former Rummelsburg prison
  • 7:30 PM – Dinner

 

Day 4 – Thursday, May 25

  • 8:00 AM – Breakfast
  • 8:45 AM – Meet in Hotel Lobby
  • 9:30 AMUrban Timber Tour – full day including inside visits – Timber construction is becoming increasingly important in the urban context With the Schumacher Quarter, a pioneering, largely car- free quarter with 5,000 flats in sustainable timber construction with green façades is being built on part of the site of Tegel
  • 12:00 PM – Lunch
  • 2:00 PMUrban Timber Tour Continued
  • 7:30 PM – Dinner
  • 8:00 PM – Wrap up architectural sightseeing dinner cruise

DELEGATE PACKAGE

  • Registration includes 3 full days of housing/development/energy site tours and architectural walking tours
  • 3-day transit passes (we will utilize the city subway system) to visit transit-oriented developments in different part of the city
  • Tour bus for Timber Tour on Day 3
  • 3 breakfasts, 3 lunches and 4 dinners, including a welcome/orientation dinner on day of arrival

All day-time housing tour activities and lunches will be restricted to fully registered delegates.

EXCLUSIONS (applicable to both Delegate and Spousal)

  • OHBA is not arranging airfare.
    • OHBA recommends members book their own flights to arrive in Berlin by the afternoon of Monday, May 22 to join the group for the welcome and orientation dinner that evening.
    • Members should arrange their own departure from Berlin anytime on, or after Friday, May 26.
    • Transportation to and from the airport is not included.
  • Members are responsible for their own health and vaccination records to comply with Berlin law.
  • OHBA cannot be held responsible for cancellations due to a pandemic or international security incidents.
